January 28th, 2006 - Junior Varsity/Novice HS Championships
Marian Central will be hosting its first ever fencing tournament on Saturday, January 28, 2006. The Junior Varsity Championship meet is expected to draw over 300 fencers from 4 states. The meet is open to all schools and clubs and any fencer with 2 years or less of fencing experience. Fencers must be affiliated with a school or club and be accompanied by a coach. Medals will be awarded to the top 8 athletes in each weapon.

Registration is $15 per fencer on/before Jan. 26, and $18 per fencer thereafter. Adjustments to rosters may be made until the close of registration at 8:30am on Saturday.

The registration form (csv file, editable in any spreadsheet or text editor) should be filled out per instructions and returned via email no later than 9:00pm on Thursday, Jan. 26. Besides your roster, please indicate what equipment you will have available, and how many Varsity fencers can assist with directing duties.

2006 Beginners Tournament
Open to all young athletes who have been fencing for under 1 year!
Tournament Date: Sunday, February 12
* Check-in: 8:15 am * Start of Competition: 9:00 am *
Age Groups: 12 and under an 14 and under
Check-in will start at 8:15am; fencing will begin promptly at 9:00 am. Entry fees are $15 for those who pre-register, and $20 for those who don't. Fencers can register by calling 815-356-8007 or by e-mailing to dbtorres@mc.net.
The tournament will be fenced dry. There will be one round of pools and one round of direct elimination. Medals will be awarded to the top 3 finishers in each group. Please pre-register by Thursday, February 9.

There is ample parking on site. The facility is just off of Rt. 14 on Ridgefield Rd. in Crystal Lake. Those coming from the east can take I-90 west and exit on Rt. 31. Turn right on 31 and continue north to Crystal Lake. Take the Rt. 14 exit and turn left (west) at the top of the ramp and continue on 14 until the signal light at Rt. 176. Ridgefield Rd. will be the first right after the light at 176. From the south, take Rt. 31 north and follow the above directions. From the west, take Rt. 176 east. Turn right (north) on Rt. 14, then right again on Ridgefield Rd. From the north, take Rt. 14 south and turn left on Ridgefield Rd.

This tournament will be fenced dry (non-electric) with side judges. This is a great chance for beginner fencers—OF ALL AGES—to get their feet wet in a tournament. No pressure. Just get in there and have fun!

NOTE: Fencers experience level should be one year or less, meaning you just started to learn fencing in the last 12 months…NO EXCEPTIONS. This tournament is a mixed/open event for foil & sabre. Times listed are close of registration.

Fees: $20 for first event ($15 if you pre-register by Friday, February 4), $10 for second event. USFA weapon and safety rules will be enforced.

The Illinois Fencers Club would like to invite epee fencers from around the Midwest and Great Lakes Sections to our fifth annual Dominick Epee Challenge.

USFA weapon and safety rules will be enforced.  Complete uniforms, knee-length socks, punch test on masks, and at least two working weapons and body cords will be required.  Registration closes at the times listed. USFA Membership is required.

Fees: $20 for individual event IF you pre-register by Friday, May 6th, 2005.  Otherwise, the entry fee will be $25 after that date.  Women can fence in the men's event for $10 if they fence in the corresponding women's event. If there are less than 6 women in the women's event, they can fence in the men's event for free.

Team Event
The team event fee is $45 per team.  Teams are made up of three primary fencers and one alternate (if you have one).  The format for the team event is a relay to 45 touches, 9 bouts, with every primary fencer from one team fencing every primary fencer from another.  The complete USFA Team Competition rules that we will be using can be found by clicking here.
  • Seeding for the team event will be based on the combined scores of the team members from the individual competition.
  • Scores from the Men's or Women's events count the same for the team event.
  • In the event of a tie in seeding, a coin will be tossed.

Named for one of the founding members of the Chicago Athletic Association, the Hutchinson Open is one of the largest competitions in the Midwest. It has the potential to be as large as the Remenyik Open or the Illinois Open.

Late registration for individual events will add $10 per event onto the registration fee.

Late registration for team events will double the registration cost.
